ARPA American Rescue Plan Act

Will County Teaching and Nursing Grant Program (WILL COUNTY HEROES)

Recognizing a critical shortage of teachers and nurses in Will County, this Grant Program will offer financial assistance to qualified undergraduate students who are majoring in any education or nursing program. In conjunction with Ascension St. Joseph, Silver Cross Hospital, the Center for Economic Development, and Workforce Services, the program will foster a pipeline for graduating high school students, adults seeking career transition, and paraprofessionals or healthcare workers seeking advancement.

Will County Heroes

Beginning in the Fall 2023 semester, eligible enrolled students will receive a of $2,500 grant per semester or $5,000 per academic year to cover tuition expenses as an education incentive to stay and work in Will County.

This program is available to U. S. citizens with a permanent residence in Will County. In addition, students must qualify and attest to one of the following:

  • Low- or-moderate income households (income at or below 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for the size of the household)
  • Households that experienced unemployment within the last 18 months
  • Households that qualify for Medicaid, PELL, SNAP, WIC
